TROY, Ala. - The Troy University women's soccer team has earned the NSCAA's (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Team Academic Award for the third time under current head coach Chris Bentley.
The award is the fifth overall for the Trojans in school history; as they won the award in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 (one of those years was when Bentley was an assistant coach).
The Trojans had 18 student-athletes honored by the Sun Belt Conference earlier this year for their academic work, by being placed either on the Commissioner's List or the Academic Honor Roll. Those student-athletes named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List (3.5 to 4.0 GPA) included Megan Bonfield, Erin Cersley, Katie Cooper, Katie Kolb, April Madden, Jacqi O'Shea, Nicole Targa and Carley Zurfluh; while those student-athletes named to the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll (3-0 to 3.49) included Sydney Beasley, Ashley Branham, Bridget Duke, Laura Hopson, Ceil Martinec, Mary Morris, Katie Pannell, Jill Pinder and Nikki Stamaris.
