Troy takes on Florida Gulf Coast for the first time in school history Sunday

FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Troy University women's basketball team will be in search of their first victory of the season when they take to the floor Sunday afternoon at Alico Arena against last season's Atlantic Sun runner-up, Florida Gulf Coast.

Tip is set for 2 pm (EST) in south Florida for the Trojans and Florida Gulf Coast (1-0).

Troy (0-3) fell in their last contest to Jacksonville State, 66-58, at home and will be playing their fourth game in seven days when they hit the floor on Sunday afternoon. The Trojans have been led thus far this season by senior Donette McNair, averaging 21.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. The Preseason Third Team selection to the All-Sun Belt team has recorded back-to-back double-doubles for the Trojans this season.

Meanwhile, junior Tenia Manuel is averaging 10.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Trojans; while junior DeAngela Sword is averaging 9.3 points and six rebounds per game through three games this season.

For the third consecutive contest, the Trojans will be without the services of three of their top five scorers from a season ago as Sarah McAppion, Kirsten Smith and Cortney Hawkins will all be out of action due to injury in the non-conference tilt.

Between the three, the Trojans are missing 41.4 percent of scoring; 44 percent of rebounding and 42.8 percent of their assists from a season - a far cry from the numbers they had slated to return at the beginning of the season.

Although this will be the first meeting between Troy and Florida Gulf Coast, it will not be the first time the Trojans have faced a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference as they were former members of the conference before joining the Sun Belt.
