TROY, Ala. – The Troy University women's basketball team will play at home for the first time Wednesday night, as they host Jacksonville State University inside Sartain Hall. Tip is set for 7 pm between the long-time rivals.
“We are excited to be playing at home,” Troy coach Michael Murphy said. “We are looking forward to the challenge on Wednesday night against Jacksonville State, a long time and in-state rival. It will be great to be playing in front of home crowd.”
The Trojans lead the all-time series 39-20, including a 23-6 advantage at home over the length of the series. They also lead the series 13-8 over Jacksonville State since joining Division I, including 9-1 at home during that stretch.
Troy (0-2) will look to get in the win column for the first time this season after facing two teams who picked near the top of the respective conferences this past weekend at the Phoenix Classic. Although the Trojans dropped a pair of games, there were some bright spots from the weekend.
Senior Donette McNair was named All-Tournament after she averaged a double-double through the two games. After narrowly missing a double-double in the opener, the senior scored a career-high 28 points and pulled down 15 rebounds against Elon to close out the tournament on Sunday.
Meanwhile, junior DeAngela Sword came off the bench to score 16 points in the opener against Stony Brook on Friday; then was inserted into the starting line-up on Sunday against Elon. Junior Tenia Manuel recorded 10 rebounds against Elon on Sunday, the second-highest total of her career; narrowly missing out on a double-double of her own.
Jacksonville State (1-0) enters the game off a 77-62 home victory over Stillman, and was led by Brittany Wiley with 18 points and six rebounds. Meanwhile, Danielle Beneby recorded a double-double in the victory as she recorded 14 points and 11 rebounds for first-year head coach Annette Watts.
The game can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM, as well as on TroyTrojans.com, with Buddy Johnson providing the play-by-play. The game can also be seen on Live Access via TroyTrojans.com with Ben Stanfield and Sanjay Kirpalani providing commentary.
