Women Compete At Southern Miss Halloween Tournament

Trojans able to come away with a pair of victories on Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Troy University women returned to the courts on Friday at the Southern Miss Annual Halloween Classic, as they took five players to the tournament this weekend.
In their first action of the tournament, the Trojans came away with a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville State as they used a victory by Gabriella Veiga and Olfa Dhaoui in doubles play for the victory. The duo defeated the Jacksonville State team of Ralphaela Lima and Juliana Renesto 8-4 to seal the victory.
In singles victory against the Gamecocks, Karoline Grymel fell to Raisa Gusti at number one in a hard-fought three set match. She fell 6-2, 2-6, 10-2 at number one in her first match. Her doubles teammate, Leonie Guijt fell to Martina Dessbesell 6-3, 7-6 at number two to close out the match.
The Trojans returned to the courts later in the day against Lamar and came away with a 4-1 victory for their first victory in the tournament. The only loss the Trojans suffered in the match came in doubles when they defaulted the match.
In singles play, Grymel won easily at number one; 6-0, 6-0 over Lamar's Diana Mendez; while Guijt also won easily at number two when she defeated Natalia Mayogoita 6-1, 6-3. In other singles action against Lamar, Dhaoui won her match at number three 6-0, 6-1 over Lamar's Alessandra Pennesi; while Veiga won her match at number four over Alicia Porte 7-5, 6-0.
In their final match of the day, the Trojans fell to Northwestern State 5-0 as they played only three of the scheduled matches on the day.
Dhaoui moved to number one singles in the match and fell to Olga Bazhanova 6-2, 7-5; while Veiga moved to number two and dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Martina Rubesova of Northwestern State.
In doubles action, the team of Grymel and Guijt dropped their only match of the day to Northwestern State's duo of Bianca Schultz and Andrea Nedrostova 9-8 (3).
The tournament continues today on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.
