Trojans Fare Well At Sun Belt Championships

The Trojans had one runner earn All-Conference honors and another narrowly miss on Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Troy University Trojans cross country programs went into the Sun Belt Championships Saturday morning with high expectations after strong regular season performances.
Their performances did not disappoint on the championships as the women recorded the lowest point total in school history, and the men came away with an all-conference performer.
"I was very proud of the way the teams competed today," Troy University Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Jill Lancaster said. "It was a great team effort all the way around. I am proud of the job that coach (Stephane) Hetherington did."
Overall, the men tied for eighth with 175 points and were just 13 points away from finishing in the the top five. They finished just behind Florida Atlantic (172), North Texas (167) and ULM (162). On the women's side, the Trojans placed seventh and were seven points away from the top five as they finished with 161 points. They finished just behind North Texas (157) and South Alabama (154) on the day.
“I am very pleased with how we competed," coach Stephane Hetherington# said. "But this time the points stacked up against us.”
Sophomore Enock Kirui earned All-Conference honors when he crossed the line sixth overall in the race with a time of 25:24.7 in the 8K race. The sophomore was the lone Trojan to cross the line to earn all-conference honors and finished just six seconds out of the top five and just 22 seconds out of a top three finish on the year.
Following Kirui across the line for the Trojans was David Hudman in 38th place with a time of 27:54.2. A trio of Trojans crossed the line next as they finished right behind each other; Nathan Rouse, Cory Jones and Kemper Morton finished 44th, 45th and 46th respecitively. They put in times of 28:13.3, 28:16.9 and 28:17.9 for the Trojans.
The other three Troy runners in the race were Alec Hamm (29:02.9), Andre McElroy (29:51.5) and Adam Vise (30:03.4).
On the women's side, Sylvia Chirchir just missed out on her second consecutive all-conference finish as she finished just outside the top 10 this season. Chirchir cross the line 11th overall with a time of 18:45.7, finishing just two seconds out of the top 10 and behind North Texas runner Sara Dietz.
Agnes Kapsoiyo had another good day for the Trojans, as she crossed the line 22nd overall with a time of 19:24.3. Morgan Paulson was the next runner across the line for Troy in 37th with a time of 19:58.6 and was soon followed by sister, Allison Paulson in 40th place with a time of 19:58.6.
Other runners in the race for the Trojans included Haley Davies (20:37.1), Catelyn Dake (21:14.5), Caitlyn Hannah (22:53.4) and Ja-Courtney Alexander (24:27.0).
“The scores were very close in both races today,” Hetherington said. “Both teams gave everything they had and ran very strong.”
The Trojans will now prepare for the NCAA Regionals later this month.
