Guijt And Dhaoui Highlight Opening Day Of ITA Regional

The Trojans have two singles and one doubles team remaining in the consolation bracket

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The opening day of the 2010 ITA Southeast Region drew to a close late Friday evening, with the Troy Trojans early success. The team still has three alive in the consolation brackets after the opening day.
Troy sophomore Karoline Grymel won her opening match of the tournament, as she defeated fellow Sun Belt competitior Vivian Polak of ULM in straight sets; winning easily at 6-4, 6-2. Unfortunately, her run in the winner's bracket came to a close as she fell to Alabama's Alex Clay 6-1, 6-1 in the second round.
Meanwhile, Grymel's doubles partner, senior Leonie Guijt fell in her opening round match to Ebie Wilson of LSU in straight sets; falling 6-3, 6-1 to fall into the consolation bracket. After falling into the consolation bracket, Guijt was able to win her match in three sets; defeating Paula Alvarez Pino of UAB 3-6, 6-3, 10-3.
She will face Julie Mazanova of Louisiana-Lafayette in the Round of 16 Consolation.
The only other competitor for the Trojans in the singles, Olfa Dhaoui fell to third-seeded Conner Vogel of Mississippi in straight sets; falling 6-1, 6-3. Much like Guijt, the Troy newcomer Dhaoui won her Round of 32 consolation match against Gioergia Romeo of UAB 6-4, 6-4. She will face Katie Cecil of Tulane in the Round of 16 Consolation on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the doubles team of Grymel and Guijt dropped their opening round match to top-seeded Alexa Guaracjhi and Courtney McLane of Alabama, 8-0. After the defeat, the duo dropped to the consolation bracket where they will face Raisa Guasta and Ralphaela Lima of Jacksonville State at 8:30 am Saturday.
The tournament continues on Saturday morning, hosted by Samford University. Results will be posted at the conclusion of the day.
