McNair Named Preseason Third Team All-Conference

The senior averaged 13.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game last season
TROY, Ala. – The 2010-11 women's basketball season is just around the corner, less than a month to be exact, and the Sun Belt Conference is holding its annual media days over the next two days this week. With the media days, the conference has released its annual preseason poll and preseason All-Conference teams.
Troy is coming off a 12-17 record from a season ago, and is picked to finish sixth in the East Division. The Trojans return three starters from last season, and will also be returning 65.3 percent of its scoring and 78.9 percent of its rebounding.
Among the starters returning for the Trojans is senior Donette McNair (New London, Conn.), who was honored by the coaches of the league as a Third Team All-Conference selection at the end of last season. She averaged 13.1 points and 9.6 rebound per game last season, and finished as the third best rebounder in the conference.
After last season's performance, McNair joins 14 other student-athletes in being named to one of the Sun Belt Conference's preseason teams.
She joins Britteni Rice (Denver), Lyrell Barfield (Florida Atlantic), Mercedes Johnson (Louisiana-Lafayette) and Anne Marie Lanning (Middle Tennessee) on the Third Team.
The preseason Player of the Year, Chastity Reed (UALR) headlines the First Team; along with Kaetlyn Murdoch (Denver), Elisa Carey (FIU), Arnika Brown (WKU) and Amy McNear (WKU). On the second team are Asriel Rolfe (UALR), Shanika Butler (UALR), Shay Scott (Arkansas State), Emily Queen (Middle Tennessee) and Jasmine Godbolt (North Texas).
The Trojans open the season on November 12 at Elon (N.C.), where they will play Stony Brook University in the Phoenix Classic.

NEWS AND NOTES FROM MEDIA DAYS: The Sun Belt Conference has announced its regular season package for women's basketball on the Sun Belt Network, and the Trojans will be the first game aired during the 2010-11 season. The Trojans game against Florida Atlantic on Sunday, January 2 will be aired at 4 pm, moving the game time back two hours to accommodate for television. This will be the second time the Trojans have a played a home game on the Sun Belt Network in two years, defeating New Orleans last season at Trojan Arena.
Head coach Michael Murphy will make an appearance on the Sun Belt Conference Media Days on Wednesday morning. He is scheduled to be online at 10:40 am Wednesday morning, and will be the next-to-last coach to go on. Murphy is in between Rick Pietri of South Alabama and Mary Taylor Cowles of WKU.
This will be the second year that the Sun Belt Conference has chosen to go with the video web conferencing style for Media Days, after hosting the 2008 Media Days in Hot Springs at Summit Arena. It is a chance for media to ask questions that ultimately wouldn't get the chance in Hot Springs.
