JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Troy University women's tennis hits the court for the first time this weekend, as they participate in the 2010 UNF Hampton Inn 9A & Baymeadows Fall Tennis Invitational hosted by the University of North Florida.
The Trojans will only travel three players to the tournament, but all have a chance to win their singles flight and will challenge in the doubles flight.
Sophomore Karoline Grymel returns for her second year at the number one position for the Trojans, and she is the top seed in Singles Flight A beginning Friday. She will hit the courts for the first time against Iris Rendon of Florida Gulf Coast at 10:30 am on the opening day of the tournament.
Her doubles partner, Leonie Guijt is seeded second in Singles Flight B and she hits the court the same time that Grymel does. Guijt takes on Jennifer Miller of Stetson on the first day of the tournament.
The only other player traveling this weekend for the Trojans, Gabriella Veiga is playing in Singles Flight C. She is matched against North Florida's Melanie Aguirre at noon on Friday.
All three players will be participating in doubles action over the weekend as well.
Grymel and Guijt are seeded second in Doubles Flight A, where they will take on Eve Castaing and Gabriela Haddad of Jacksonville University in the opening round at 9 am on Friday. Meanwhile, Veiga is playing in Doubles Flight B, where is teamed with a member of the Jacksonville team. The duo hits the court against Aguirre and Sierra Sullivan of Stetson.
Originally scheduled to be a three-day tournament, it has been trimmed down to a two-day event meaning multiple matches each day for the competitors.
Results will be posted once they become available, and can be seen by visiting the Tournament homepage at the top of the release.
