BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Troy Trojans return to action Wednesday night, hitting the road for the first of back-to-back Sun Belt Conference game, facing Florida Atlantic University.
Troy (8-4, 1-2 Sun Belt) and Florida Atlantic (6-7, 2-1 Sun Belt) have met 22 times before this week's match-up, with the two teams splitting those contests. The longest streak of the series belongs to Troy, which stands at eight and they are currently in the midst of that streak having not lost since January 6, 2005.
Both the Trojans and Florida Atlantic were opponents in the Atlantic Sun Conference before coming over to the Sun Belt. The Trojans have not lost to Florida Atlantic since joining the Sun Belt Conference five years ago, including winning both contests last season.
The Trojans are 3-7 all-time in Boca Raton, having won all three times in Boca Raton after joining the Sun Belt Conference. Troy head coach Michael Murphy is 8-5 all-time against Florida Atlantic since joining the Trojans athletic department eight years ago.
Last year's trip to Boca Raton proved to be the most exciting trip of the season for the Trojans as their original flight out of the Montgomery Regional Airport was canceled. They could not get another flight out of Montgomery, forcing the team to drive to Atlanta to catch a flight that put the Trojans in Florida on the day of the game. Following just five hours of sleep, the Trojans defeated Florida Atlantic 58-52 in FAU Arena.
Florida Atlantic enters the contest after falling in the last conference game to South Alabama and are led by Brittany Bowe at 11.7 points per game from her guard position. She shoots 38.3 (54-of-141) percent from the floor and 73.2 (41-of-56) percent from the free throw line, while grabbing 4.3 rebounds per game.
Bowe is the lone Owl in double figures, as Lyrell Barfield averages 9.9 points per game while shooting 40.5 (49-of-121) percent from the floor on the season.
Meanwhile, Troy is led by Donette McNair at 13.2 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game, while Alyce Shearing averages 11 and Brittnie Davis 10.3 points per game. Freshman Sophie Kleeman averages 9.9 points per game, while sophomore Sarah McAppion.
The game can be heard on WTBF-970 AM beginning at 3:45 pm (CST). Live stats will be made available throughout the contest. averages 8.6 points per game off the bench.
