Trojans Fall To 14th-Ranked Clemson

CLEMSON, SC - The Troy University women's tennis team fell to their second consecutive nationally-ranked opponent as they fell to 14th-ranked Clemson 5-2 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
Clemson (3-0) jumped ahead early by claiming the doubles point when they won all three doubles matches on the afternoon. The first match complete was at number one where the Trojans' team Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt fell to Clemson's top doubles team of Ina Hadziselimovic and Keri Wong, 8-0. The Tigers were able to clinch the doubles point when the team of Laurianne Henry and Nelly Ciolkowski defeated Troy's team of Lauren Simpson and Emma Smith, 8-1.
After the doubles point was all ready decided, the Trojans' team of Rosaura Ramirez-Vega and Stephanie Vieira lost to Clemson's Josipa Bek and Estefania Balda, 8-2.
In singles action, Clemson won the top four spots to claim the victory while Troy claimed wins at numbers five and six to get a pair of points in the loss.
Troy (1-2) got victories from Emma Smith at number five, when the freshman defeated Clemson's Laurianne Henry when she retired up 6-2, 2-1. Meanwhile, the Trojans' other victory came at number six when Rosaura Ramirez-Vega claimed a 5-7, 1-0 (10-5), 1-0 (12-10) victory over Clemson's Estefania Balda when the overall match was decided.
The Trojans return to action on February 6 when they travel south to face Stetson, before facing nationally-ranked Florida the next day in Gainesville.
