TROY, Ala. - The Troy University women's indoor track and field team will hit the road for their season-opening meet this season, participating in the Blue Raider Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee State University.
The Trojans will take 23 student-athletes with them to the season-opener, and among those 23 student-athletes are names that challenged for medals last season at the same meet.
Senior Tiphanie Baker finished with two medals at last year's Blue Raider Invitational, before capturing the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the same venue. She claimed the silver medal in the weight throw and a bronze medal in the shot put at last year's season-opening meet. In the weight throw, Baker finished second with a throw of 52' (15.85 meters), while in the shot put she finished third with a throw of 43'4" (13.21 meters). Other top finishers from last year's meet included Latoya Ragland capturing a silver medal in the 55-meter hurdles in her first race back after redshirting the previous season, finishing with a time of 8.22 seconds. Kapri Hockaday captured a medal, winning silver in the high jump in the meet last season.
Several athletes will be back that participated in the meet last season, including Anastasia Limo, Ariel Cavazos, Naquita Rowe, Brentley Collins, Chontia Allen and Kelly Harrington.
The meet is the first of three indoor meets before the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in February. The Trojans will also travel to North Carolina (January 29) and Clemson (February 12) before the conference meet.
Results will be posted once they become available Saturday night.
