TROY - The Troy Trojans soccer team was recently honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for 2009 by the NSCAA.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the Trojans soccer team has received the honor.
"Our student-athletes really believe in excelling in the classroom and with the help of student-athlete services it is something we are now expecting of ourselves," said head coach Chris Bentley. "It is great that awards like these are coming our way, as we take a lot of pride in working hard on and off the field and this year was no exception."
To receive the award a team must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for the 2008-09 academic year. Troy topped their last year team GPA of 3.30 with a GPA of 3.46. Seven other Sun Belt teams received the honor, but Denver was the only school to post a higher GPA.
Troy's 3.46 GPA was the highest among all state schools receiving the NSCAA award, including Division I, II and III along with NAIA institutions.
"We believe strongly that this dedication will help prepare our student-athletes for fantastic careers after graduation," said Bentley.
