TROY, Ala. - The Troy University soccer team heads to Arkansas to take on a pair of conference opponents this weekend.
The Trojans have completed their non-conference schedule and they face 11 straight conference matchups for the remainder of the season.
The Trojans used the non-conference matches to further prepare themselves for their upcoming conference schedule.
"I think the non-conference
season has really given us a great gauge on what we need to improve and where
we are relative to the conference," head coach Chris Bentley said.
The Trojans start their weekend tour with UALR (3-5) on Friday afternoon as Troy (4-3-1) looks to break the series' three-year losing streak.
This will be the fifth time
the Trojan battle has occured, with Troy not exiting victorious since 2005.
Troy is coming off a heart-wrenching home loss to Evansville last Friday as they fell 2-1 in overtime. The Evansville loss marked the third straight overtime challenge for the Trojans, but those games have mentally and physically prepared the squad for its upcoming weekend.
"Training has been great over the past couple of weeks, and playing a few overtime games a long the way has helped with fitness," Bentley said.
Troy continues their Arkansas tour as they stop in Jonesboro on Sunday to take on Arkansas State (3-4-1). The Trojans are looking continue their winning push to 6-0 against the Red Wolves.
"This is a big weekend for us, and we expect both games to be extremely tough," Bentley said. "If we can put together complete games, making the post-season is definitely within our reach."
The Trojans kick-off the
weekend in Little Rock at 7 pm on Friday. Sunday's match is set to begin at 1 pm.
