HAMMOND, La. - The Troy Trojans won their second consecutive game of the season, defeating Southeastern Louisiana 1-0 Friday night. The victory was the first for the Trojans over Southeastern Louisiana, ending an eight match winless streak.
The Trojans (2-0) scored their lone goal early in the second halfm, and were able to maintain the lead against SELU (1-1) until the final whistle.
"Their style of play disrupted the rhythm of the match," Troy head coach Chris Bentley said. "It was tough for the girls to adjust to their technique. Fortunately, we were able to get the needed goal early in the second and hold them."
Senior Bridget Duke scored the game's lone goal in the 55th minute to give the Trojans the lead, with the assist being provided by freshman Niki Stamaris - her third in just two games to start her collegiate career.
The Trojans tested Lions goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus throughout the entire match. Duke recorded three shots on goal, while junior Jill Pinder and Mary Morris recorded one shot each.
Ashley Branham, starting in goal for the second consecutive match, gained her first shutout of the season. She registered three saves in the 90 minutes of action.
The victory marks the fifth-straight victory for Troy, who continue their Louisiana tour Sunday where they will take on Nicholls State at 1 pm.
