Baker Scores Trifecta at Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - Junior Tiphanie Baker recorded the trifecta this weekend at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic, recording an NCAA regional qualifying mark in all three throwing events in which she was entered.
Baker hit a quaifying mark in the shot put for the first time in her career with a throw of 14.46 meters (47'5.25"), finishing seventh in the event. She then hit a qualifying mark in the discus with a gold medal finish, by throwing 53.15 meters (174'4"); then finished off the weekend with a throw of 56.02 meters (183'4") to qualify in her third event of the weekend.
In other field events for the Trojans, senior Monique Jordan finished 16th in the shot put with a throw of 12.27 meters (40'3.25"). She followed that performance with an 11th place finish in the discus with a throw of 44.21 meters (145') and a throw of 45.27 meters (148'6") to finish 14th in the hammer.
Meanwhile, senior Stephanie Yawn finished 17th in the hammer with a throw of 40.58 meters (133'2"), and a 12th place finish in the javelin with a throw of 31.23 meters (102'5").
She was joined in the javelin by fellow senior Agata Cichoszewska in the javelin with a 14th place finish on a throw of 25.02 meters (82'1"). Cichoszewska also entered into the triple jump competition, and promptly won the silver medal with a jump of 12.68 meters (41'7.25").
Latoya Ragland finished off the field events for the women with a jump of 11.62 meters (38'1.50") in the triple jump for a sixth place finish.
On the the track, Ragland finished fourth in her best event, the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 13.64. She was joined in the race by Naquita Rowe with a sixth place finish and a time of 14.00 seconds, and Chontia Allen with a 15th place finish and a time of 16.20 seconds. In the 400-meter hurdles, Kapri Hockaday finished 14th with a time of 1:06.64.
In the 100-meters, Ariel Cavazos finished 23rd with a time of 12.40 seconds and Shay Mathews finished 30th with a time of 12.85 seconds. In other sprint competitions, Rowe finished 29th in the 200-meters with a time of 26.00. She was joined in the race by Matthews with a 34th place finish and a time of 26.64 seconds, and Allen with a time of 26.96 seconds.
In distance competition, Erika Fyrvall finished 28th in the 1500-meters with a time of 5:00.95; then finishing 20th in the 3000-meters with a time of 11:00.96. She was joined in the two races by Anastacia Limo with a 31st place finish in the 1500-meters with a time of 5:11.94, and a 24th place finish in the 3000-meters with a time of 11:18.58. Senior Jenean Corcoran finished fifth in the final distance event of the day, the 3000-meter Steeplechase, with a time of 11:44.52.
On the men's side, senior Lamar Hicks narrowly missed the NCAA qualifying mark in the 100-meters in just his second race of the season. After running a wind-aided 10.38 last weekend, Hicks ran a time of 10.57 seconds to finish fifth (missing the mark by just 0.02 seconds). Freshman Payton McGhee finished 10th with a time of 10.70, followed by Burke Leonce with a time of 10.72 seconds. Fellow runners Dennis Acree and Mike Conley finished with times of 11.30 and 11.80, respecively.
In the 200-meters, Leonce finished eighth - missing the qualifying mark by 0.28 seconds - by running a time of 21.63 seconds. He was joined by McGhee (19th) with a time of 22.18, Acree (30th) with a time of 22.80 and Grant Bullington (34th) with a time of 23.33. Freshman Andre McElroy and Conley rounded out the field with times of 23.53 and 23.95 seconds.
McElroy came back and finished 30th in the 400-meters with a time of 51.36, while Drew Taylor finished right behind in 31st with a time of 51.72 seconds. Matavis Madden was the top finisher in middle distance competition by finishing 20th in the 800-meters with a tme of 1:56.41. He was joined by Terrence Dixon (29th) with a time of 1:58.91 and Shane George (32nd) with a time of 2:00.64.
In the only hurdles race of the weekend for the Trojans, Logan Etheridge finished 19th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.46 seconds.
In distance competition, Denzel Ramirez finished 17th overall in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:00.26, while Drew Horner (23rd) and Jeremy Moujoodi (23rd) finished right behind the senior with times of 4:05.59 and 4:06.26. Adam Vise finished 28th in the same race with a time of 4:09.47, while Brett Lewis finished 29th with a time of 4:10.76.
Meanwhile, in the 3000-meters, Moujoodi finished 11th with a time of 8:44.03. He was closely followed by Ramirez with a time of 8:44.39 and a 12th place finish, Horner in 17th with a time of 19:10.94 and Lewis in 19th with a time of 9:13.52.
In field competition for the Trojans, Terrell Irons finished in the Top 10 in jump competitions. He finished 10th in the long jump with a distance of 6.47 meters (21'2.75") and an eighth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.31 meters (46'11.50").
Ryan Schmeling finished 19th in the hammer with a throw of 47.21 meters (154'11"), while Conley rounded out the day for the Trojans with a 19th place finish in the javelin with a throw of 45.74 meters (150'1').
Troy returns to action next Saturday at the South Alabama Invitational.
