NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference announced their weekly awards for track and field this afternoon, and Troy University senior Agata Cichoszewska picked up her second outdoor award of the season and the sixth of the season for the Trojans.
The senior left no doubt she was the top field athlete of the week at the Coach O Invitational with her three victories in the three events she was entered. Not only did she win all three events, but she either qualified or bettered her qualifying mark in two of the three events. Cichoszewska started the day with a victory in the javelin, throwing a distance of 37.54 and winning by nearly two meters with the eighth-best throw in the Sun Belt Conference this season. As soon as the javelin was over, the senior hustled to the long jump pit where she promptly qualified for the NCAA Regionals with a jump of 6.11 meters. The jump set a new school record and is the second longest jump (6.12 meters leads the conference) in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
Her day was complete when she competed and won the triple jump with an NCAA Regional mark of 13.20 meters, bettering her mark set previously this season. The jump set a new school record, breaking the mark she set earlier this season, and is the second-longest in the conference; not to mention the seventh-best in the country.
Cichoszewska won her first award March 24, and since the Trojans have captured awards by Tiphanie Baker (March 31 and April 5), Lamontrey Stamper (March 31) and Lamar Hicks (April 12). The award is the fifth for field athletes this season for the Trojans, in just six weeks of competition. The only week the Trojans did not capture the women's field athlete of the week was last week.
Troy is off this weekend in preparation for the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Murfreesboro (campus of Middle Tennessee State University) May 8-10.
