Soccer Puts a Wrap on Spring

TROY - Looking ahead to the upcoming season the Troy Soccer team has had an unbeaten spring and hopes to continue that winning streak on to the fall slate.
Amidst all the practices and workouts the team has been traveling and playing in several matches and tournaments around the south.
“We had a very successful spring with wins over Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, AUM, Montevallo and Birmingham-Southern. We are very pleased with the unbeaten spring and we are looking forward to the 2009 season,” head coach Chris Bentley said.
With the victories, the Trojans were named champions of both the inaugural Troy 7v7 Spring Tournament and the 7v7 tournament hosted by Jacksonville State.
Several of the team members were also recognized at an awards luncheon on April 19 for their hard work and success this past season.
The awards were as follows: Scholar Athlete - Sarah Sanders; Player of the Year - Jill Pinder; Newcomer of the Year - Ashley Branham and the Trojan Award went to Mary Morris.
Pinder also received a plaque for Sun Belt Player of the Week and Soccer Buzz National Team of the Week. She was the first Troy player to receive either honor.
With the season right around the corner and roster spots filled the team is eager to take to the field for what they hope will be a successful 2009 campaign.
“It's been an exciting year for the girls. It has been a successful year breaking all the records we did in the fall. This spring has just been another good building block on what we already established during the fall. We are looking forward to the new season,” Bentley said.
