TROY, Ala. - The Troy University track and field program heads to Auburn for the second time this season, this time for the War Eagle Invitational taking place on Friday and Saturday at the Hutsell-Rosen Track.
The Trojans have qualified three different student-athletes in five different events, and will face stiff competition this weekend with at least seven nationally-ranked programs venturing to The Plains.
Junior Tiphanie Baker has qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the discus, hammer and shot put this season - ironically all two weeks ago at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic. She is joined as a regional qualifier by Agata Cichoszewska (triple jump) and Latoya Ragland (100-meter hurdles).
Meanwhile, senior Lamar Hicks has come close to qualifying in the 100-meters and the 200-meters and he will get that chance this weekend as he is entered into both events. Junior Burke Leonce is knocking on the door of the 200-meter qualifying mark, and just like Hicks, will get a chance to break down that barrier this weekend. Junior Lamontrey Stamper, after a week off, will get back into competition in the long jump and triple jump - all ready having won numerous medals in the two events.
Troy will face stiff competition this weekend with the host team, Auburn, sporting two nationally-ranked programs (men are 20th and the women are 16th) according to the USTFCCCA. Meanwhile, Penn State will also travel to Auburn, bringing with it the seventh-best program in the women's ranks. They will be joined by a pair of SEC schools with two nationally-ranked programs in Florida (men are fourth and the women are 12th) and South Carolina (men are sixth and the women are 19th).
The event gets started at 4:30 pm with the hammer throw for the men, with the women to follow 45 minutes after completion of the men's event. The meet begins again on Saturday morning at 11 am with the pole vault and concludes with the 4x400-meter relay at 6 pm Saturday evening.
The War Eagle Invitational will also live stats available through the tournament.
