Severe Weather Slows FSU Relays

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Despite severe weather that rolled through northern portions of Florida and southern portions of the state of Alabama, the FSU Relays were able to continue despite hour-long delays throughout the day at Mike Long Track, on the campus of Florida State University.
Due to severe weather in the area, the Seminoles coaching staff and meet coordinators kept a rolling schedule going throughout the second day of the event.
With no total scores given at the conclusion of the Heptathlon, preliminary results show that Trojan senior Agata Cichoszewska finished second in the event with 4558 points; finishing just behind Uhonoma Osazuwa of Syracuse with 4697 points.
Cichoszewksa finished first overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.69 meters (18'8"), finishing just ahead of Osazuwa with a distance of 5.53 meters (18'1.75"). Chontia Allen of Troy finished tied for third in the event with a distance of 5.07 meters (16'7.75"). In the day's second event, Cichoszewska finished third in the javelin with a throw of 32.60 meters (106'11"), while Allen finished ninth with a throw of 18.67 meters (61'3"). In the final event of the Heptathlon, Cichoszewska finished second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:28.43; while Allen finished fourth with a time of 2:33.66.
In the men's Decathlon, the Trojans' trio of Mike Conley, Leander McKenzie and Grant Bullington continued to battle for position on the final day of the event in the severe weather.
Conley won the opening event of the day, the 110-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.03 seconds. He defeated teammate and school-recordholder, Leander McKenzie, who finished second with a time of 15.37 seconds. Bullington finished fifth with a time of 16.42 seconds. In the day's second event in the Decathlon, Conley finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 29.94 meters (98'3"), while Bullington finished fifth with a throw of 28.39 meters (93'2"). McKenzie suffered a setback in the event, recording an ND and not scoring any points for the Trojans.
In the third event of the day, Conley finished second in the pole vault with a height of 4.25 meters (13'11.25"); along with Bullington. McKenzie bounced back from his discus finish, finishing fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.95 meters (12'11.50"). In the fourth event of the day and the ninth event overall, Conley finished third for the Trojand with a throw of 47.20 meters (154'10") in the javelin. He was followed by McKenzie with a throw of 46.25 meters (151'9") in fourth, and Bullington sixth with a throw of 43.07 meters (141'4"). In the 10th and final event of the Decathlon, Conley finished second in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:58.81, while Bullington finished seventh with a time of 5:27.23 and McKenzie in eighth place with a time of 5:42.97.
Despite the Heptathlon and Decathlon stealing the spotlight in the severe weather, the Trojans competed in other individual events on the day.
Sophomore Latoya Ragland made her debut at the relays in the long jump, finishing third in the event with a jump of 5.47 meters (17'11.50"). Teammate, Ariel Cavazos finished fourth with a jump of 5.42 meters (17'9.50"), while Naquita Rowe finished ninth in the long jump with a jump of 4.84 meters (15'10.50").
Lamontrey Stamper won another medal in the outdoor season, capturing a gold in the long jump at the meet on Friday afternoon. Stamper finished first with a jump of 7.32 meters (24'0.25") to win the event by four inches over Bernard Bush of Syracuse. Terrell Irons finished third in the event with a jump of 6.82 meters (22'4.50"), a personal-best for the freshman.
Meanwhile, senior Stephanie Yawn finished eighth in the javelin for the Trojans with a throw of 30.32 meters (99'6").
On the track, Kapri Hockaday finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.98, finishing just ahead of teammate Shay Matthews in eighth place with a time of 1:08.71. Hockday finished less than once second out of a third-place finish in the event, and just three seconds from first-place Latoya Wright of Florida A&M. Rowe also competed in the event for the Trojans, finishing ninth with a time of 1:08.91.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Michael Alexander finished fourth in the event with a time of 56.16 seconds. He finished just 0.04 seconds from a third-place finish and just two seconds out of a second-place finish.
Freshman Shane George finished fourth with a time of 49.49 seconds, a personal-best, in the 400-meters; followed by senior Matavis Madden with a time of 50.34 in sixth-place and Dennis Acree in seventh with a time of 50.42 seconds.
The men's 4x200-meter relay team (Payton McGhee, Lamar Hicks, Antonio McLeod and Burke Leonce) captured a gold medal in the event with a time of 1:27.23, defeating the team from Florida A&M by over one second.
In the women's 5000-meter race, Anastacia Limo finished eighth overall with a time of 20:00.14; while Jeremy Moujoodi finished fourth in the same event for the men with a time of 15:25.37.
The Trojans return to the track Saturday morning at 8 am, weather permitting.
