The Geelong Lady Cats have made a major signing on the eve of the Big V season.
American Audrey Muse will spend the season with the Lady Cats in hop of winning a spot with a WNBL club.
The 181cm forward spent four seasons playing college basketball with Troy University, where she played with former Geelong player Kylie Morrissy, and is currently an asisstant coach with the team.
Lady Cats coach Darren Busuttil said Basketball Geelong president Frank Morrissy came across Muse on a visit across to America last year to watch his daughter play.
"She is an extremely athletic player. Frank said he felt she was probably the most athletic player he's ever seen, so hopefully she can come out and do some goods things for us. She's keen to play WNBL and a stepping stone to that is to play in the ABA. She is going to help as much as we can help her," Busuttil said.
"But she's going to miss the start of th eseason. She can't get here until her college committments have finished."
He was hoping Muse would arrive in Geelong for the Lady Cats' round three match against Waverly on April 5 or suit up against Buileen in Templestowe on April 19.
The 24-year old, who is originially from Jacksonville, Florida averaged 7.7 points a game over her five-year career with the Trojans. She also collected 607 rebounds in 112 games.
During her freshman year, Muse was selected as a member of the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team and the following year made the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team.
Busuttil said Muse's experience would be a welcome addition to his young squad after the departures of Candice Rogers, Charmain Ferguson, Ashlea Salter and Prue Kenny from the Lady Cats' line-up.
"The team is very young this year, so they'ss get more game time than they would have normally," Busuttil said. "But hopfully thay will only help with the development of their careers."
Busuttil also said youngster Maddy Taylor should be right to take the court from early May. Taylor missed all of last season after suffering a preseason knee injury.
The Lady Cats start their season with a home game at The Arena against Melbourne on Saturday, March 21.
