SEWANEE, Tenn. ? The Troy University women's indoor track & field team turned in a dominating performance on Saturday in winning the Tiger Indoor Invitational, hosted by the University of the South.
The Trojans piled up a meet-high 135 points in winning eight of the 13 events in which they competed.
Senior Agata Cichoszewska and junior Tiphanie Baker led the way for the Trojans, scoring 20 points each in winning four of the five field events for Troy. The Trojans were also strong on the track, taking home firsts in the 55-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and 4x400 relay.
Cichoszewska, the defending Sun Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Week, took home first in both the long jump (5.6 meters) and triple jump (12.67m) while Baker took top honors in the shot (13.31m) and weight throw (16.05m).
Overall, the Trojans scored 80 points in the track events, which would have been good enough for second in the meet without scoring a point in the field events. Troy's 135 points easily outdistanced second place Samford (94). Sun Belt foe South Alabama finished a distant third (76).
Sophomore Latoya Ragland was third in points scored for Troy. She took first place in the 55-meter hurdles, turning in a run of 8.22 seconds in the prelims before blistering the field with an 7.99 in the finals. She added six more points with a fourth place finish in the 55-meter dash, turning in a run of 7.36 seconds in the final.
Freshman Ariel Cavazos earned points in three events, including a first place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.7 seconds. She also scored points with a fifth in the long jump (5.25m) and a seventh in the triple jump (10.17m).
Junior Naquita Rowe placed in two events, earning a fourth in the 200 meters (27.12) and a sixth in the long jump (5.11m). Freshman Erika Fyrvall earned four points with a fourth place finish in the 800-meters (2:27.83) and two for a fifth in the mile run (5:33.73).
Five other Trojans scored points in various events. Junior Kapri Hockaday took second in the 400-meter dash (1:03.67), just ahead of senior teammate Shay Matthews (1:04.01) in third and sophomore Brentley Collins (1:05.55) in fifth. Hockaday also took first in the high jump with a leap of 1.6 meters. Sophomore Chontia Allen tied for third in the event (1.47m) to earn six points.
Two others with points in field events were senior Monique Jordan with a second in the weight throw (15.95m) and freshman Nicole Polk with a tie for fourth in the vault. Her 3.2 meter height in the prelims would have been good for second, but she only managed a 3.05 meter height in the final.
The Troy indoor track team is scheduled to compete again this weekend at the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson.
