Jumpers Win Gold at Clemson

CLEMSON, SC - Agata Cichoszewska and Latoya Ragland jumped their way to individual gold medals at the Tiger Paw Invitational this weekend, hosted by Clemson University.
Cichoszewska won the gold medal in the triple jump, after leading following the preliminary round with a jump of 12.50 meters. After advancing to the finals, the senior won the title with a jump of 12.59 meters; more than 0.40 meters farther than second place Jill Arthur of Kennesaw State. Cichoszewska also finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 5.45 meters, and also ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay that finished eighth with a time of 4:04.56.
Ragland also won another indoor gold medal this season, this time in a field event - the long jump. After jumping a distance of 5.54 meters in the preliminary round to take the lead heading into the finals, her jump was good enough to hang on to first place and capture the gold medal. She also finished fifth on the day in the triple jump with a distance of 11.59 meters and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01 seconds.
Meanwhile, Ariel Cavazos finished eighth in the long jump with a distance of 5.35 meters.
In other field events, junior Tiphanie Baker finished fourth in the weight throw, after being in third after the preliminary round. She finished with a distance of 16.71 meters in the event. Monique Jordan also qualified for the finals in the weight throw, finishing seventh overall with a throw of 14.89 meters. Stephanie Yawn finished 23rd overall with a throw of 12.35 meters.
The trio also competed in the shot put, with Baker finishing 11th with a throw of 12.09 meters. Meanwhile, Jordan finished 21st with a throw of 10.70 meters and Yawn finished 32nd with a throw of 9.36 meters.
Kapri Hockaday narrowly missed out on a top three finish, as she finished sixth with a jump of 1.68 meters in the high jump; while Nicole Polk finished 19th with a height of 3.17 meters.
On the track, the top finisher other than Ragland in the 60-meter hurdles was the Distance Medley Relay team of Kelly Harrington, Shay Matthews, Erika Fyrvall and Jenean Corcoran that finished sixth overall with a time of 12:52.26. The 4x400-meter relay team also finished in the top eight as Cichoszewska was joined by Cavazos, Hockaday and Naquita Rowe; finishing eighth with a time of 4:04.56.
Cavazos also finished 17th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.23; while Matthews finished 28th with a time of 27.05. Fyrvall also finished 17th in an individual event, running a time of 2:23.48 in the 800-meter run. Meanwhile, Chontia Allen finished 39th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.48.
In the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries, Rowe finished 14th overall with a time of 9.25 seconds; while Allen finished 30th overall with a time of 9.75 second. In the 60-meter dash preliminaries, Cavazos finished 15th overall with a time of 7.96, Matthews 27th with a time of 8.27 seconds and Rowe 29th with a time of 8.34 seconds.
Brentley Collins ran in middle distance competition for the Trojans, finishing 26th overall with a time of 1:04.90 in the 400-meter dash. In distance competition, Harrington finished 38th overall with a time of 5:32.59; while Corcoran finished 22nd in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:06.16 and Anastacia Limo 24th with a time of 11:26.69.
Troy returns to action in two weeks at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Arkansas State University.
