Trojans Head to Tiger Paw Invitational

CLEMSON, SC - The Troy University track and field team will head up the East Coast this weekend to participate in the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson University on Friday and Saturday.
The event begins at 5 pm on Friday afternoon with five events on the slate - just three involving student-athletes from Troy. Nicole Polk starts things for the Trojans in the pole vault at 5 pm, followed by a trio of throwers (Tiphanie Baker, Monique Jordan and Stephanie Yawn) in the weight throw. The final event featuring Trojan student-athletes on Friday involves a trio of jumpers (Ariel Cavazos, Agata Cichoszewska and Latoya Ragland) in the long jump.
A majority of the running events will take place on Friday night as well, beginning at 5 pm. Eight different events will hit the track Friday night, followed by five more running events on Saturday beginning at 12:45 pm.
The field events will begin at 9 am on Saturday morning with the shot put, featuring Baker, Jordan and Yawn.
The Trojans return 10 student-athletes from last season's team, and return three others from two seasons ago to compete this season in the Sun Belt Conference indoor season. Baker, Jordan and Cichoszewska will look to lead the Trojans in the field events; while returning distance runners Jenean Corcoran and Kelly Harrington will look to lead the Trojans in the running events this weekend.
This weekend is the final tune-up for the Troy women's indoor track and field team , before they head to Jonesboro, Arkansas for the Sun Belt Indoor Championships in two weeks.
Cichoszewska jumped a provisional NCAA mark in the triple jump at the Tiger Indoor Invitational - the first student-athlete from Troy to qualify automatically or provisionally for the championships.
The Trojans won their meet last week at the University of the South, the second consecutive season that the Trojans have won the meet.
The Troy Trojans won the Tiger Indoor Invitational, hosted by the University of the South, with 135 total points. The Trojans easily outdistanced second place Samford with 94 total points.
Troy won six different events, including a pair of events by the same athletes. Baker continued her impressive fall with wins in the shot put and weight throw, while Cichoszewska won the long jump and triple jump in the meet. Cichoszewska also qualifed for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a provisional mark in the triple jump. Ragland (55mH), Kapri Hockaday (high jump) and Cavazos (200m) also won events.
This week's meet is scheduled to start at 5 pm on the campus of Clemson.
