TROY, Ala. - The Troy Trojans women's basketball team will host one of their biggest home games to date when they play host to Middle Tennessee State University Wednesday night at Trojan Arena.
The game is not only important for the Sun Belt Conference standings and seedings for the postseason tournament, but the game will also be the centerpiece of a pair of promotions tomorrow night.
The Trojans will be hosting the "Pack the House Challenge" and will be a participant in the "WBCA Pink Zone" Wednesday night. The athletic department wants to fill the arena with 4,000 people with each person donating $1 at the door to help find a cure for Breast Cancer. They are also asking everyone in attendance, no matter your affiliation, to bring a friend and everyone wear pink. The Trojans will also honor a survivor of breast cancer at halftime of the contest.
Troy (11-12, 6-7 Sun Belt) is currently seventh in the conference standings, just one game out of fifth place (South Alabama and New Orleans), two games out of fourth (Denver) and three games out of third (WKU) with just five games to play. Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee (20-4, 12-0 Sun Belt) is currently 26th in both the Associated Press Poll and ESPN/USA Today Top 25 this week and are five games up on the nearest competition in the East Division.
Troy is coming off a 58-52 victory over Florida Atlantic Saturday night, a game in which the Trojans did not arrive in Boca Raton until the day of the game and came away with the victory after just five hours of sleep. The Trojans are led by Kylie Morrissy, sixth in the conference in scoring, at 16.7 points per game. Donette McNair also is in the Top 20 in scoring and rebounding in the conference, scoring 12 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Senior Larelle Roper is just two assists away from joining the Top 25 in the Sun Belt Conference all-time in assists, and three to take the 25th place outright.
Middle Tennessee is led by the conference's leading scorer, Alysha Clark, who is also one of the top rebounders in the conference.
The Trojans have just five games remaining on the schedule, including two more home games against WKU (Saturday, Senior Day) and South Alabama (regular-season finale). They are in the midst of a battle for a home first round game in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and Wednesday night's game can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM with Buddy Johnson providing the play-by-play.
Don't forget, WEAR PINK and BE LOUD. Tip is set for 7 p.m., and the Trojans are asking at least a $1 donation at the door to help find a cure for Breast Cancer.
