BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, New York - The Troy University women's basketball team braved the elements and were able to get through delays and cancellations at airports across the eastern seaboard this weekend to arrive in New York on Sunday night. Now just two days later, the Trojans take the floor at the Pope Physical Education Center in the middle of Brooklyn Heights to take on St. Francis College.
The Trojans had to battle the elements after their victory over the University of New Orleans on Saturday when their original flight was canceled out of Atlanta on Sunday morning. After the cancellation, the Trojans sat around the airport for six hours before getting on another flight into JFK late Sunday afternoon.
Troy (6-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) has won their last three games and is in search of the fourth consecutive victory, which would be the second time under head coach Michael Murphy. The last multi-game winning streak came last February when the Trojans reeled off five victories in a row.
This will be the third trip to the state of New York for the Trojans under Murphy, with each coming in odd years. The last time the Trojans ventured to New York they took on Fairfield and Fordham in the Fordham Holiday Invitational, with the Trojans winning the consolation game.
The game on Tuesday will be the first match-up between Troy and St. Francis, and was due to air on WTBF-94.7 FM but due to the travel restrictions the game will not be able to be broadcast. However, St. Francis has made all of their links available to the Trojan fan base following the travel issues, and they can be found by clicking on the links above.
