HOUSTON - It all started on November 20 at Florida and on Monday night in Houston, Troy's streak of eight consecutive road games will finally end. Troy is currently 3-4 on the swing away from Trojan Arena and is hoping for a win over the Cougars (4-2) to finish with a split.
The Trojans (5-4) had a chance to secure no worse than a 4-4 finish on the lengthy road trip, but fell 99-70 on Saturday night to Houston league-mate Marshall. Despite Brandon Hazzard scoring 21 points, the Herd out-shot Troy and hit 13 treys to pace a balanced attack. Troy had just two players in double-figures with Vernon Taylor (13 points), joining Hazzard in double-digits.
The game is the first-ever meeting between the two programs. It features two of the most decorated active coaches in the NCAA in Troy's Don Maestri and Houston's Tom Penders. Between the two head men there are more than one thousand career victories.
The Cougars are led by the nation's leading scorer, Aubrey Coleman. The Houston native is scoring exactly 27 points per game while shooting nearly 43 percent from deep and grabbing 7.5 rebounds a game. He is joined in the UH backcourt by Kelvin Lewis. Lewis is scoring almost 17 ppg, while shooting a team-best 47.8 percent from 3-point land. Also in double-figures is Adam Brown at 13.5 ppg.
Tip-off is set for 7 pm CST at Hofheinz Pavilion. Barry McKnight will bring you all the action from courtside on the Troy ISP Network beginning at 6:30 pm.
