STATESBORO, Ga. – The Troy Trojans men's basketball team travels to Statesboro, Ga. this holiday weekend for the regional round of the 2009 Legends Classic presented by the Gazelle Group.
Troy (2-2) is aiming to erase the memories of back-to-back losses to Florida and UAB and they feel like if they play up to their abilities this weekend, they can earn a few victories.
“This weekend we are playing teams that are at our level,” head coach Don Maestri said. “How well we play in these games will dictate the outcome. If we play well we have a chance to get back on the right track. It doesn't matter what level, we still have to shoot well. From that standpoint it's an important weekend for us.”
Maestri knows the Trojans must shoot better for them to be successful. Over the last two games, Troy is shooting 36 percent from the field, while allowing its opponents to shoot higher than 44 percent.
“I think it's obvious that we didn't shoot the ball really well the last two games,” Maestri said. “We played two teams that at this point in the season are better than us. They had bigger players with good athleticism. For being the size they are, they were very agile and extremely quick. There's no question at this point in the season, they were the better teams.”
The Trojans will face UA Fort Smith on Friday at 4 pm central time, then follow up with games against Valparaiso on Saturday at 2 pm and the host, Georgia Southern, on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
All three games can be heard on the Troy ISP Network with pregame beginning 30 minutes prior to tip-off with Jim Tocco bringing you all the action from courtside.
