NEW ORLEANS, La. - In conjunction with the annual Sun Belt Conference Basketball Media Days, the conference released their televisions schedule for the 2009-10 season.
The Troy University women's basketball team will be playing a home basketball game on SBC-TV this fall, according to the schedule, as they host the University of New Orleans at Trojan Arena. The game will be played on Saturday, December 19, at 11 am CST (originally scheduled for 2 pm) and will be the feature game of the conference that day.
This will be the second time in as many seasons that the Trojans will be featured on SBC-TV, but their first at home, as they fell to ULM last season at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Also on Wednesday, the conference released the preseason All-Conference teams and the preseason poll. The Trojans were picked at the bottom of the East Division after losing their leading scorer, and third-leading scorer in the conference, from last season in Kylie Morrissy; as well as point guard Larelle Roper and forward Danielle Realph. The Trojans will look to build off their momentum from last season with the return of seniors Alyce Shearing, Brittnie Davis and Lucy Lindley. They also return their second-leading scorer and top rebounder, Donette McNair, and their top freshman scorer from last season in Kirsten Smith.
The poll is made up of votes from the conference coaches, with Middle Tennessee picked to win the East Division and UALR the West Division. The rest of the East Division, after Middle Tennessee, is led by WKU in second, South Alabama in third, Florida Atlantic, FIU and Troy. The West Division is led by UALR, followed by Denver in second, Arkansas State, New Orleans, North Texas, ULM and Louisiana-Lafayette.
Alysha Clark, the nation's top scorer from last season, returns for Middle Tennessee and is tabbed and the Preseason Player of the Year. She is joined on the first team by UALR's Chastity Reed, Middle Tennessee's Brandi Brown, South Alabama's Shakira Nettles and Arnika Brown of WKU. The second team consists of Kim Sitzmann of UALR, Monika Bosilj of FIU, Chelsia Lymon of Middle Tennessee, Kaetlyn Murdoch of Denver, and last year's Preseason Player of the Year Dominique Duck of WKU.
The third team consists of Ebonie Jefferson of Arkansas State, Brittany Bowe of Florida Atlantic, Brittany Helm of New Orleans, Brittany James of North Texas and Kenzie Rich of WKU.
The Sun Belt Conference Media Days began Tuesday via the web with the West Division coaches, and will conclude with the East Division coaches on Wednesday. Troy head coach Michael Murphy will be featured at 11 am tomorrow morning via the web conference.
The Sun Belt Conference will provide supplementary onscreen graphics for those watching on their computer screens during the four day media event. Members of the media can expect these enhancements to include notable statistical information, upcoming schedules, and team facts.
Members of the media will be required to register for the events. Please contact John McElwain (mcelwain@sunbeltsports.org) for additional information.
