TROY, Ala. - The Troy University soccer team welcomes two Florida conference teams this weekend, as Florida Atlantic and FIU make their first trip to the state this weekend.
Florida Atlantic will challenge the Trojans (6-7-1, 2-4 Sun Belt) first on Friday afternoon. Troy and FAU (3-10-2, 1-5 Sun Belt) first met in 1999 with the Trojans fell 4-0. Since that first meeting, the Trojans have been outscored 36-4 by FAU.
Training for the Trojans has been in intense this week after a couple of upsetting losses last week on the road.
“Training has gone well this week,” head coach Chris Bentley said. “We have had a lot of good energy and focus, and I am looking forward to see how it translates on the field.”
FIU (6-5-3, 4-1-1 Sun Belt) and the Trojans have had an exciting round of matchups in previous years, but the series favors the Golden Panthers 2-1. Troy has been outscored 7-2, but six of those goals by FIU came in 2006.
Bentley is looking forward to the his team's upcoming challenges this weekend.
“FAU and FIU bring quite a bit of athleticism to the table, which will make it important for us to come out on a high level of intensity,” Bentley said.
Kickoff against FAU is set for 3 pm at the Troy Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon. Sunday's match starts at 1 pm. Admission to all home soccer matches is free.
