DENTON, Texas - The Troy Trojans soccer team lost for the second time this weekend, as North Texas claimed a 2-0 victory in Sun Belt Conference action.
North Texas' (9-4-1, 5-0-1 SunBelt) Michelle Young scored twice against the deficit over Troy. The Trojans (6-7-1, 2-3 SunBelt) just could not stop Young as she scored in the 11th and then again in the 85th minute.
The first goal came off a corner kick as Young's shot to the left side of the goal bounced off Troy keeper Ashley Branham, for the 1-0 North Texas lead.
The Trojans found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime for the fifth time this season.
The scored remained the same until the 85th minute, when Young struck again on a cross from Kendall Juett. She was able to knock the ball passed Branham for the two-goal advantage and seal the victory for the Mean Green.
The loss to the Mean Green marks the third straight conference loss this season for the Trojans.
Troy recorded seven shots, as Laura Hopson topped the list with two. Branham saved 10 of the 19 shots North Texas recorded on the day.
"We did not play well together today," Troy coach Chris Bentley said. "North Texas did a great job getting a goal early and putting us away late," Bentley said.
The Trojans aim to break their losing streak on Friday as they welcome Florida Atlantic to the Troy Soccer Complex, with kick set at 3 pm.
