Trojans Fall Short at Denver

DENVER - The Troy University soccer team falls short to Denver 1-0 Friday night.
The Trojans (6-6-1, 2-3 Sunbelt) remains winless against Denver raising their streak to five straight losses.
The lone goal of the match came in the first 21 seconds of the contest when Denver's (8-4-1, 4-1 Sun Belt) Kelle Breidenbach came up the left side of the field and crossed the ball into the goal box where Mariah Johnston hammered the ball past goalkeeper Ashley Branham.
The Trojans defense stayed strong and maintained the scoreless standstill throughout second half action.
Head coach Chris Bentley said his team just could not come up with the goal.
"Denver came out of the gate scoring a great goal and we just could not find the equalizer," he said.
Troy attempted just three shots throughout the match, while Denver had an impressive 17 shots.
Sophomore Mary Morris accounted for two shots, both coming in the first half.
After 46 minutes of shot silence, senior Megan Bonfield hammered it at the goal, giving Denver its only save of the match.
Ashley Branham recorded seven saves on the night increasing her season total to 81.
Troy looks to break its two-game losing streak on Sunday as they take North Texas in Denton. Kickoff is set for noon.
