Trio of Trojans Compete at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - A trio of student-athletes competed in the Texas Roadhouse Carolina Classic this weekend on the campus of the University of North Carolina, including two newcomers to the Troy women's track and field program.
Kapri Hockaday finished as the high-point athlete for the Trojans, recording 3,039 points to finish in sixth in the Pentathlon. She was followed by Chontia Allen with 2,740 points in ninth place and Naquita Rowe with 2,682 points in 10th place. The eventual champion of the meet was North Carolina's Alexandra Coppadge with 3,738 points.
In the first event of the day, the 60-meter hurdles, Rowe finished fifth with a time of 9.40 seconds, finishing behind Coppadge - the winner - with a time of 8.86 seconds. Hockaday finished eighth with a time of 9.92 seconds and Allen 11th with a time of 10.09 seconds.
In the high jump jump competition, Hockaday finished fifth with a jump of 1.54 meters (5'00.50"). She was followed by Allen in seventh place with a jump of 1.48 meters (4'10.25"), followed by Rowe in 11th place with a jump of 1.33 meters (4'4.25").
The Trojans continued to compete in the field events after the high jump, competing in the shot put. Hockaday was the top finisher for the Trojans with a throw of 8.34 meters (27'4.50"). She was followed by Rowe in ninth place with a throw of 7.52 meters (24'8.25"), and Allen in 10th place with a throw of 7.44 meters (24'5'). The field events continued into the long jump with Allen finishing seventh with a jump of 4.92 meters (16'1.75"). She was followed by Rowe (4.88 meters) and Hockaday (4.82 meters), finishing eighth and ninth.
In the final event of the day, Hockaday solidified her sixth place finish with a fourth place finish (714 points) in the 800-meter run. She crossed the finish line with a time of 2:28.36 - less than three seconds behind the winner of the event. Allen finished eighth with a time of 2:42.43, followed by Rowe in 10th place with a time of 2:44.73.
The Trojans return to action next Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn. at the Tiger Paw Indoor Invitational.
