DENTON, Texas ? The two top scoring teams in the Sun Belt Conference are also the two teams with the longest current winning streaks and they will do battle on Thursday night at the Super Pit.
Troy (11-10, 6-3 SBC) rides into town on a four-game win streak, having already eclipsed last season's league win total and looking to tie the amount of wins earned for the entire 2007-08 season. The Trojans average a league-best 77.7 points per game, but also surrender a league-high 79.0 ppg.
During their current four-game string of victories, Troy is scoring 77.8 ppg and holding its opponents to under 68 points.
On the other side of the court will be the home team Mean Green, who enter Thursday's contest on their own four-game roll. North Texas (12-7, 5-3 SBC) is second to Troy in points scored at 76.9 ppg., and second from the bottom in points alllowed at 76.1 ppg.
Historically, Troy has struggled at the Super Pit, dropping all three games in the two team's history played in Denton by an average total of more than 24 points. The Trojans' only win over the Mean Green came in Troy last season in overtime, 91-88, on January 3.
Richard Delk and Brandon Hazzard anchor Troy's offensive attack. Both players have scored in double-figures in all but five games this season and average 15-plus points in conference play. Michael Vogler (12.1 ppg) also averages in double-figures in Sun Belt play.
North Texas is led by Eric Tramiel who has scored in double-figures in 8-of-10 games, including back-to-back double-doubles. Tristan Thompson leads a quartet of players that average double-digits with a 12.1 ppg average.
Tip-off for Thursday night's game is set for 7 pm at the Super Pit. Barry McKnight will bring you all the action from courtside on the Troy ISP Network.
