Cichoszewska Wins Gold at First Meet

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior Agata Cichoszewska started her final indoor season off with a gold medal, winning the triple jump at the Blue Raider Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Cichoszewska recorded a jump of 40'3" to win the event, her first of the indoor season. She was not the only triple jumper to compete in the triple jump for the Trojans, as Kapri Hockaday finished third with a jump of 34'7.50" and Naquita Rowe finished fourth in the event with a jump of 33'9.25".
Junior Tiphanie Baker finished third in her first indoor meet of the season in the shot put, finished with a distance of 43'4". Senior Monique Jordan finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 39'4", while senior Stephanie Yawn finished 10th in the same event with a distance of 34'10".
In the weight throw, Baker finished with a silver medal as finished with a distance of 52'; finishing second to Middle Tennessee's Brittany Cox. Jordan finished sixth in the event with a distance of 47'4", while Yawn finished ninth with a distance of 36'7".
The Trojans also won a medal in the long jump when Naquita Ragland finished second in the event with a jump of 18'5.75"; while Ariel Cavazos finished fourth with a jump of 17'8" and Cichoszewska finished fifth with a jump of 17'7.25".
In the final field event for the Trojans, Nicole Polk finished second with a height of 10'6"; finishing second to Jacksonville State's Amber Wiley.
In sprints, Trojan newcomer, Cavazos finished fourth in the finals of the 55-meter dash by running a time of 7.30, after finishing second in her qualifying section with a time of 7.32. Other runners for the Trojans in the 55-meters were Jasmine Patton (who finished fourth in her section with a time of 8.22) and Shay Matthews (who finished fourth in her section with a time of 7.67).
Matthews rebounded in the 200-meters when she came back and ran the sixth fastest time in the event, but won her qualifying section with a time of 26.67. Naquita Ragland made her first appearance in a Trojan uniform, finishing third in her section with a tmie of 26.47 - the fifth fastes time in the event.
Meanwhile, in middle distance competition, Anastacia Limo - a semester transfer for the Trojans - finished second in her section with a time of 2:38.34. She was joined in the event by Brentley Collins, who finished fourth in the section with a time of 2:41.98.
In the distance competition, senior Jenean Corcoran finished second in her section with a time of 5:25.32; finishing just .02 seconds behind the eventual section winner, Nicole Muldowney of Belmont who finished with a time 5:25.30. Other runners in the one-mile run included Limo, who finished seventh in the section with a time of 5:38.02, and Kelly Harrington, who finished eighth in the section with a time of 5:43.10. In the 3000-meter competition, the final distance event, Corcoran finished sixth overall with a time of 10:59.66; just four seconds out of fifth and five seconds out of a fourth-place finish.
In the 55-meter hurdles competition, the Trojans sent three into competition with two qualifying for the finals. Ragland finished second overall in the event, running a time of 8.22 seconds - she ran a time of 8.21 seconds to win her section of the event. Rowe finished fifth overall in the event with a time of 9.00 seconds - after running a time of 9.29 to finish third in her section. Chontia Allen did not qualify for the finals, finishing fourth in her section with a time of 9.56 seconds.
The final running event of the day was the 4x400-yard relay, with the Trojans finishing second to Jacksonville State with a time of 4:08.56; while Jacksonville State won the event with a time of 4:08.21.
The Trojans return to action in two weeks at the Tiger Indoor Invitational. The event takes place February 7 and is hosted by the University of the South in Sewanee.
