TROY, Ala. - The Troy women's basketball team returns to Trojan Arena Wednesday night, attempting to end a modest two-game losing streak, against the University of New Orleans. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m., and can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM with Buddy Johnson providing the play-by-play.
Troy (8-9, 3-4 Sun Belt) has lost its last two games - both on the road - after a five-game winning streak. The Trojans lost to South Alabama 68-60 and to ULM 70-42 over the past week, with Kylie Morrissy and Donette McNair each having career nights throughout the week. Morrissy scored a career-high 28 points in the eight point loss to South Alabama, while McNair tied her career-high with 15 rebounds against South Alabama. McNair also recorded her fifth double-double of the season, and of her career, with 10 points and 11 rebounds against ULM on Saturday.
Although the Trojans lost two road games last week, the team can point back to what head coach Michael Murphy said after winning against Louisiana-Lafayette.
"Everyone in this conference is trying to do the same thing," Murphy said. "Everyone wants to either have a bye or host a first round game. In order to do that, you have to win your home games and try to win a couple of games on the road. If you want to host a home playoff game, you have to protect your home floor. That is what our focus is."
Morrissy continues to lead the Trojans, averaging 17.1 points per game, while McNair is averaging over 11 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
New Orleans (8-10, 3-4 Sun Belt) enters the game on a three-game losing streak, including losing twice last week. The Lady Privateers fell to LSU at home, ending a three-game homestand. In that contest, New Orleans was held to just 26 rebounds - their second poorest output of the season (24 against UALR last week). New Orleans also lost to WKU on the road last week.
The game will be the only home game of the week for the Trojans, who travel to face UALR Saturday afternoon.
