TROY ? The Troy Trojans soccer team was awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for 2008 recently by the NSCAA.
“It is great to see the team's hard work being rewarded, but anytime a team at Troy is honored for their academics, credit has to go out to Student-Athlete-Services as well,” head coach Chris Bentley said. “Our program has really established itself academically and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The girls expect excellence of themselves in the classroom, and it is exciting to see us move towards that type of mentality on the field.”
For a team to receive the award they must post a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Troy posted a team GPA of 3.30, good enough for second highest in the Sun Belt Conference. Also joining the Trojans in receiving the award were Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky, FIU and South Alabama.
2008 marks the third consecutive year the Trojans have received the honor.
