Troy Captures Trojan Invitational Title

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University men's cross country captured the team title at the Trojan Invitational Saturday morning, while the women finished third in the first even of the season for both teams.
Troy used seven runners in the top 11 to score a total of 24 points and outdistance themselves from Alabama State in second place with 33 points, to capture the championship of the season-opening meet. Both Troy and Alabama State combined to have the first 14 runners cross the finish line.
Denzel Ramirez was the top finisher for the Trojans, finishing second with a time of 15:58.61, seven seconds behind individual champion Robert Gunn of Alabama State with a time of 15:51.00. Jeremy Moujoodi finished third overall with a time of 16:09.55, while Drew Horner crossed the line fifth with a time of 16:37.82. Terrence Dixon finished sixth with a time of 16:42.80, while the other three top 11 finishers were Brett Lewis eighth (17:00.49), Adam Bradley 10th (17:27.52) and Alec Hamm 11th (17:29.24).
Other runners who competed for the Trojans were Adam Vise, who finished 14th with a time of 18:28.50, and Drew Taylor, who finished 16th with a time of 18:43.93.
The Trojan women finished third in the event with 80 points, however, Jenean Corcoran eased across the finish line in a time of 12:02.01 to capture the individual championship. She finished over 16 seconds ahead of second-place Kesia Derilus of Alabama State, who crossed the line in a time of 12:18.84.
Erin Clymer was the second Trojan to cross the line on a humid Saturday morning, finishing 17th with a time of 14:22.19 and picking up 17 points for the Trojans. She was folllowed by Chontia Allen in 22nd with a time of 14:46.27 and Kelly Harrington in 23rd with a time of 14:46.79. The final two runners for the Trojans, Brittney McGhee and Shea Matthews, finished with times of 15:13.89 and 15:21.23 respectively.
Alabama State captured the women's title with 28 total points (three of the top six runners in the field to cross the line), followed by Albany State with 47 points and Troy in third.
The Trojans return to action at the Azalea City Classic in Mobile on Saturday, September 23.
NOTE: After reviewing the results at the conclusion of the
meet, Moujoodi was awarded second place and Ramirez third. The bib
numbers were entered incorrectly into the scoring computer at the
conclusion of the meet.
