TROY, Ala. - With one cross country event under their belts the Trojan men and women are ready to run again this weekend.
The Troy University men and women cross country teams will be traveling to Mobile to compete in the annual Azalea City Classic in the Port City.
The men are coming off a championship this past weekend at home in the Trojan Invitational, topping second place Alabama State for the title. Meanwhile, the women finished a solid third in the event.
In that race, Jeremy Moujoodi finished second overall for the men and Denzel Ramirez third overall. Jenean Corcoran won the championship on the women's side with a time of 12:02.01, which earned her Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week.
The Azalea City Classic is a 5k, 3.1 miles, for both the men and women on the campus of the University of South Alabama, who is hosting the event.
"Last week both teams had a good start to the year," assistant coach Tommy Barksdale said. "I expect both teams to improve this weekend."
Among some of the teams competing in the event are South Alabama, the University of Mobile, West Florida, Southeastern Louisiana, Nicholls State and McNeese State.
"We should match up well with the teams that are going to be at the meet," Barksdale said. "This meet is significant for training and has special meaning because of in-state and conference foe South Alabama being at the meet."
The women will begin their race at 10:15, followed by the men at 10:45.
