TROY ? A familiar foe will be in Troy on Friday afternoon when the Troy Trojan soccer team hosts in-state rival Jacksonville State at the Troy Soccer Complex.
The Trojans have been long-time rivals with Jacksonville State since both shared time in the Gulf South Conference as Division II teams in the 1980's and early 90's.
Troy (3-0-2) enters the contest in the midst of their best start in program history, yet to suffer a defeat in five matches.
Leading the charge has been sophomore transfer Jill Pinder with seven goals, a total that puts her just four off Troy's individual season record of 11. Pinder posted her first career hat trick on Sunday with three scores against Nicholls State.
Troy's offense erupted against the Colonels with 10 goals, including six in the second half. Joining Pinder with a hat trick was freshman Mary Morris who notched the first three goals of her collegiate career.
Jacksonville State (0-3-2) enters on the opposite end of the spectrum, winless in their first five matches, including three in a row before Sunday's 1-1 draw with Mercer.
The Trojans have never defeated JSU, including falling 2-1 to the Gamecocks in 2007.
Friday's match is schedule to start at 3 pm. Admission to all home soccer matches is free. Live video and stats of the game will be available at the links above.
