TROY, Ala. - Troy University Director of Cross Country/Track & Field, Jill Lancaster, announced the addition of Chip Brundage as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 athletic seasons this morning.
Brundage comes to the Trojans from Drake University, where he served as an assistant coach for throws and as the recruiting coordinator. While at Drake, Brundage was responsible for team training, assisting with practice planning and was the lead recruiter for the team. Under Brundage, the Bulldogs had two throwers named All-Conference in the javelin (second in conference) and discus (sixth in conference). He assisted in signing 21 female and nine male student-athletes for the 2007-08 season.
Prior to his time as an assistant coach, Brundage stepped away from the world of track and field, when he served as an outside salesman at Infomax Office Systems before the opportunity arose to join Drake on a full-time basis. During that same time period, Brundage served as volunteer assistant coach from 2003 until 2005 at Drake in the throws and in multi-events (Heptathlon and Decathlon). He was responsible for all throwing events for both programs, as well as working with the multi-event athletes in training and their technique.
Brundage graduated from Simpson College (Indianola, IA) with a B.S. in Mathematics Education and Coaching in December 1999. He was named team captain during his junior and senior seasons, and was also selected as an All-American during his sophomore and junior seasons. Brundage was named as the Most Valuable Athlete on the team during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He still holds the school record in the discus, and he was named a First Team All-Conference selection in football during his junior season.
