The Trojans (1-0-1) for the second week in a row put themselves in a halftime deficit, this time falling behind 2-0 to the Southeastern Louisiana Lions (1-0-1), but again the Trojans came roaring back to tie things up and force overtime.
“We had a confidence about us early, but sometimes that comes across as lack-a-dasical. I give credit to SLU they played a great game. This was a great overall soccer game,” head coach Chris Bentley said.
Junior Nicole Targa erased the Trojans' zero on the scoreboard with a 54th minute goal, her first of the season.
The tying score came in the 64th minute off the foot of Jill Pinder on a beautiful cross from Katie Cooper. The goal was Pinder's third of the year nad knotted things at two.
After allowing the two first half goals, freshman goalkeeper Ashley Branham settled down, picking up 10 total saves. The Lions scored two early goals in the fourth and 17th minutes of the first half.
Bentley knows his team has to make some changes and is not sure what it is, but does see a lot of positive things out of the game.
“I've got to look at the tape and talk about it. We've got to have more energy in the first half. The resiliency we showed in the second half shows that Troy Soccer is going in the right direction,” Bentley said.
