TROY, Ala. - Troy University head women's basketball coach Michael Murphy released the 2008-09 schedule this morning, highlighted by six teams who qualified for postseason play last season.
The Trojans will play against NCAA Tournament participants Georgia Tech, Chattanooga, George Washington and Western Kentucky (twice); while playing WNIT participants Arkansas-Little Rock and Middle Tennessee (twice).
Troy opens the season with two road games, at Georgia Tech (November 14) and at Austin Peay (November 21), before playing their first game at Trojan Arena. The Trojans open the home slate against in-state rival Jacksonville State on November 25, a home slate that features 12 dates with three against non-conference opponents. The Trojans also play Kennesaw State on December 3 and Spring Hill on December 13 in non-conference action at Trojan Arena.
The road will be a tough test for the Trojans in non-conference action. After they open the season with two road games, they travel to Chattanooga for the Chattanooga Classic which features the host team, as well as Richmond and Akron. The Trojans will also play at George Washington on December 16, before closing the non-conference action in the UT-Pan American post-Christmas Tournament at the end of December.
Troy will play nine conference games at home, including FIU (January 3), FAU (January 6), Louisiana-Lafayette (January 10), New Orleans (January 21), Denver (January 31), Arkansas State (February 4), Middle Tennessee (February 11), Western Kentucky (February 14) and South Alabama (February 28).
