FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The final day of the Mideast Track and Field Region came to an end with three top eight finishes for the Trojans in three events.
Sophomore Leander McKenzie finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdle finals Saturday evening with a time of 13.92 seconds. The time broke the school record that McKenzie set earler this season at 14.01 seconds at the Coach O Invitational. His performance was followed by senior Tawanna Meadows sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash. Meadows finished with a time of 11.307 seconds, finishing just 0.003 seconds behind LSU's Kenyanna Wilson. The finish kept Meadows from earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Outdoor Championships next month. Meanwhile, the final competitor of the day, Agata Cichoszewska finished seventh in her flight and eighth overall in the triple jump with a distance of 12.68 meters.
All three athletes narrowly missed earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a top-five finish. They must now wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the championships with their top-eight finishes.
They will look to join O'Darien Bassett, the only Trojan to earn an automatic bid, in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa in June.
Meanwhile, the Trojan men finished tied for 20th overall in the standings with 11 points, tying for the highest finish among Sun Belt Conference teams. The Trojan women finished 28th with a total of four points, the fourth-highest total among Sun Belt Conference teams.
The NCAA Outdoor Championships takes place June 10-14 in Des Moines, Iowa, hosted by Drake.
