Trojans Split First Two Games with MTSU

The Trojans stormed out of the gate in the top of the first inning when freshman Adam Bryant led off with a single. He advanced to second on a groundout from Steven Felix and scored on a single from Bryan Miller. Beau Brooks followed with a walk and Daryl Otwell doubled in the runners to give
Middle
In the top of the fourth inning Brett Pierce reached on an infield singled and touched the plate on Bryant's third home run of the season. He belted a 3-2 fastball over the wall in right center to close the gap to 7-6
Rawley Bishop walked and scored on a RBI single by Zach Dean to push the MTSU lead to 8-6.
The Trojans got off to a good start with a run in the top of the fifth inning when Brooks singled up the middle. Brock Kelley followed with an infield single and Brooks scored on a single through the right side from Brett Henry to close the gap to 8-7.
As like the first inning, Middle Tennessee answered the Trojans inning with a vengeance. The Blue Raiders plated four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Miller hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning with a ball the opposite way for his sixth of the season closing the gap to 12-8.
Brett Henry and Brock Kelley both scored in the seventh inning and again in the eighth on Henry's second home run for the 15-12 game.
Tim Wheeler (3-6) didn't have his best stuff in the game. He tossed three innings and gave up eight runs on nine hits while walking seven batters.
Jordan Mathers got out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning before the rain came. He came back on Saturday as the starter and didn't last very long giving up four runs on two hits in one inning of work.
Drew Hull also gave up two runs on two hits in one inning. Senior Neal Jordan finished the game with two runs on four hits in the final three innings.
Middle
Miller was 5-for-6 in the game with four RBI. Kelley and Henry each had three hits. Henry and Bryant each chipped in three RBI.
GAME 2
The Trojans held off a late Middle Tennessee rally to sink the Blue Raiders11-10 in the second game of the day.
Bryan Miler got the Trojans on the board in the top of the first inning with his second home run on the day with a line drive over the wall in right center field scoring Felix from first, who reached on a single up the middle for the early 2-0 lead.
Michael Precise led off the second inning with a walk and scored on an error by Tyler Burnett off the bat of Adam Bryant to give
Brock Kelley reached on an error in the top of the fourth inning and scored on a single from Bart Pettus. He scored on a single to left field off the bat of Bryant for the 6-0 advantage.
Middle
Precise hit his team-leading ninth home run in the top of the sixth inning to push
The Trojans added three runs in the top of the seventh inning as Felix, Miller and Brooks each singled and scored on three consecutive walks to Kelley, Precise and Henry to increase the lead to 10-4.
MTSU used two singles, two doubles, a walk and a three-run home run in the final inning to close the gap 11-10 but a Josh Storm strike out with two outs in the ninth sealed the win.
Senior Ryan Ellison (3-3) got the win on the hill going five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out five.
Travis Burge tossed the next three and two thirds innings and looked good until the ninth. He gave up six runs on six hits while walking one and striking out one. All six runs came with two outs.
Storm (9) came on and struck out the only batter he faced to get the save.
Miller had four hits in the game with two RBI. Felix had two hits in the game.
The Trojans will look to win the series tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm.
