Miller Earns All-American Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. ? The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams and

National Player of The Year were announced today by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Trojan outfielder Bryan Miller was named as a first-team outfielder for his outstanding play during the 2008 season.

“We are very proud of Bryan and what he was able to do for us this season,” head coach Bobby Pierce said. “He had a season that was very deserving of an All-American. To lead the nation in multiple statistical categories is a tribute to what kind of player that he is.”

Miller is the 45^th All-American in the history of the Troy Baseball Program. He is the 14^thTrojan player to be named as a first team player.

In only his sixth season as the coach of the Trojans, Pierce has had seven players named as All-Americans. Five players have been named as first team players, two have been named to the second team and one player was a third teamer. Kevin Weidlich was also named as a First Team Academic All-American in 2007.

Miller finished the year with an impressive .402 batting average with 12 homers and 64 RBI. He currently leads the entire NCAA in total hits, doubles, and doubles per game.

“I am very honored to be named as an All-American,” Miller said. “I worked hard this season and always gave my best. I want to give credit to my teammates and my coaches for believing in me this season. This is an individual award but I couldn't have done this without the other players around me because baseball is a team game.”

The first team features six starting pitchers who posted a combined 63-8 record with an ERA of

2.14. RHP Stephen Strasburg of San Diego St. led all pitchers with 133 strikeouts. The first team relief pitcher was Joshua Fields of Georgia. He recorded 16 saves and a 1.52 ERA.

The offense features power and line drive hitters and even a player with a ton of doubles. The first team belted 181 homers led by 3B Jeremie Tice of College of Charleston (25) and SS Gordon Beckham of Georgia (23). The team collected 201 doubles led by OF Bryan Miller of Troy (32). Miller also leads the nation in total hits (102) and doubles per game (.55). Eight first teamers hit 17 or more doubles during the season.

This marks the 12th year that Louisville Slugger has sponsored the Division I All-Americans.
