Troy Wins Three Sun Belt Awards

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University track and field program continued to shine in the Sun Belt Conference, winning three Athlete of the Week awards this week for the their performance in the Coach O Invitational this past Saturday.
The three awards are the most awards won by one team this season in the Sun Belt Conference, and two of the recipients are multiple-time award winners for the Trojans.
Senior Tawanna Meadows won her fourth award this season with her performance in the Coach O Invitational. She won the award based upon breaking the school record for the fourth time in the 100-meter dash this season, on her way to four gold medals and another NCAA Regional qualifying mark. Meadows ran a time of 11.26 seconds in the 100-meter dash, breaking the record of 11.31 seconds set a couple of weeks ago at the LSU Tiger Invitational and easily winning the event by 0.48 seconds. She also cruised to the 200-meter gold with a time of 23.60 seconds, narrowly missing her school-record time of 23.49 seconds in the same event. Meadows also competed in two relay events, winning gold in the both, and meeting the NCAA qualifying mark in the 4x100-meter dash. She ran the anchor leg for the 4x100-meter relay team that captured gold with a time of 45.40 seconds, and win the event by 1.51 seconds. Meadows competed in the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay, winning a gold with a time 3:51.82.
Meanwhile, senior Lamar Hicks won his first award of the season with his three gold medal performance at the Coach O Invitational this past Saturday. Hicks won the 100-meter dash with season-best and personal best time of 10.40 seconds, the fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this season. He also ran a time of 21.15 seconds in the 200-meter dash, narrowly missing his personal best of 21.12 seconds in the same event set a couple of weeks at the LSU Tiger Invitational. In his final event of the day, Hicks anchored the 4x100-meter relay team that won the gold medal with a time 40.69 seconds just missing the NCAA qualifying mark of 40.66 seconds in the event.
Both Meadows and Hicks were also awarded the Athlete of the Meet awards at the Coach O Invitational for their performances.
The final award won by the Trojans was won by senior O'Darian Bassett in the field events. Bassett, competing in just his second meet of the season, recorded the longest jump in the Sun Belt Conference, the longest jump in the Mideast Region and second-longest in the NCAA this season. Bassett recorded a jump of 7.91 meters, setting a new school record in which he set last season.
The Trojans are off until the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships next week, hosted by the University of North Texas.
