Wheeler Named Pitcher of the Week

“We are very proud of Tim and his accomplishment this weekend,” head coach Bobby Pierce said. “We have had several guys come close to winning the award but he is the first and we are proud of him.”
Wheeler tossed his first ever complete game shut-out in the opening game of the conference series with UALR. He did not allow a run in the contest and only issued five hits on 100 pitches.
On the night, he did not allow a runner past second base in the entire game while walking two and striking out two. He only gave up more than one hit only once in the game when he gave up two singles in the eighth inning. He recorded 17 ground ball outs while his defense turned four double plays behind him.
“He has been very consistent for us in his last several starts,” Pierce said. “He is a very good ground ball pitcher and gets a lot of double plays behind him.”
