Trojans Fall to JSU, 14-6

“We came out of the box swinging the bats and we looked good,” coach Bobby Pierce said. “They just out hit us when it counted and we got behind the eight-ball early.”
Freshman Adam Bryant led off the home half of the first inning with a triple off of the wall in right center. He was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a fielders' choice off the bat of Michael Precise. Beau Brooks singled to center and all runners scored on Bryan Miller's third home run of the season as Troy took the 3-0 lead.
The Gamecocks answered the Trojans scoring with four runs of their own. Josh Sanders had a two-RBI double to left center and David Cunningham singles in another run. Bert Smith had a sacrifice fly to left field scoring the fourth run of the inning and giving the Gamecocks the 4-3 advantage.
Steven Felix hit his second home run of the year with a ball over the fence in left field tying the score 4-4.
JSU reclaimed the lead with three runs in the fourth to go along with two runs in the fifth.
JSU hung five more runs on the board in the seventh inning on two doubles and three singles to take to 14-6 lead and put the game out of reach.
Mike Powers (1-1) to the loss on the hill for the Trojans going three innings and giving up seven runs on six hits. He walked two batters and struck out one.
Neal Jordan followed Powers and went one and two thirds innings and gave up two runs on three hits. After missing two weeks with a broken bone in his hand, freshman A.J. Howard made a brief appearance going two innings. Rob Brown tossed one inning and struck out two batters.
Sophomore Clay Thomley made his first collegiate appearance Tuesday night as he tossed the ninth inning. He gave up one hit in the inning.
