TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Troy University Trojans Track & Field program qualified two more student-athletes for the NCAA Regionals later this season, and Tawanna Meadows qualified for the second time in as many weeks in the 100-meters at the FSU Relays Saturday.
Meadows, who qualified for the 100-meters and 200-meters last week at the Snowbird Invitational, ran a better time this week at the FSU Relays with a time of 11.54 seconds. The time placed her third in the event, yet was still a qualifying time. The time also broke the school record in the event in which set last week at 11.61.
The senior did not stop there, setting two other school records on the afternoon. She was part of the 4x200-meter relay team that crossed the line in fifth place at 1:37.49. Along with her teammates Shelisia Crawford, Tatiana Thomas and Porsche Holden; the Trojans broke the old school record of 1:37.90 set last season. She was also part of the Sprint Medley Relay team that finished second with a time of 3:59.84, breaking the old school record of 4:00.08 set in 2004.
Also, on the women's side, Agata Cichoszewska narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA regionals in her first outdoor meet of the season in the triple jump. She finished with a distance 12.02 meters (39'5 1/4"), missing the qualifying mark by just 0.30 meters.
On the men's side, the Trojans qualified two athletes for the regionals and set a new school record in the process.
Leander McKenzie crossed the line in second place in the 100-meter hurdles, running a time of 14.28 seconds. The time was good enough to qualify McKenzie for the NCAA Regionals, and broke the school record in the event. The old school record was 14.29 held by Jesse Morrow and set in 2003.
Meanwhile, LaMar Hicks qualified for the NCAA regionals in the 100-meter dash for the second consecutive year. Hicks crossed the line sixth with a time of 10.50 seconds to qualify for the event later in the season.
The Trojans are back in action next weekend at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic beginning on Friday afternoon.
