Clymer Third in Heptathlon After Day One

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Troy University senior Erin Clymer sits in third place after the first day of competition on the heptathlon at the FSU Relays hsoted by Florida State University at the Mike Long Track.
Clymer is just 175 points shy of North Florida's Amy Stroder for first place and is just 124 points behind South Florida's Sara Williams for second place with three events left to be completed.
The senior finished third in two events on Thursday afternoon - the high jump and shot put. Clymer jumped a distance of 1.63 meters (5'4 1/4") to grab third place and 771 points, while she recorded a distance of 9.93 meters (32'7") in the shot put to pick up 525 points.
She also finished second in her heat, but fourth overall, in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.56 seconds. The finish was good enough to gather 769 points in the first event of the day. In the last event of the day she finished third in her heat, but seventh overall, in the 200 meters with a time 28.19 seconds. The finish was worth 616 points bringing her to a total of 2,681 points on day one of the heptathlon.
The event finishes up tomorrow, with the remainder of the FSU Relays hitting its full stride tomorrow morning.
Only two other athletes competed on day one for the Trojans in the meet, both in the hammer. Ryan Schmeling finished fifth in the hammer with a throw of 40.06 meters (131'5"), placing him fifth in the competition. Meanwhile, Shenita Howell finished fourth on the women's side with a throw of 44.18 meters (144'11").
The meet continues on Friday and concludes on Saturday evening.
